The Willow Creek Ranch Experience
Guests can stay in the refurbished 1890's log cowboy bunkhouse.
In the evening, the sun paints the red cliffs redder, then streaks them with purples and blues. Strolling through the pastures, guests may see a coyote eyeing a flock of sheep or a bald eagle soaring lazily on an air current. In the living room, people heatedly discuss whether Butch Cassidy died in Bolivia, as Hollywood portrayed, or lived out his last days at home, as his sister Lula claims.
The ranch cookhouse dates to 1890 so it is not beyond the realm of possibility that Butch Cassidy himself stopped in for some cowboy coffee and hotcakes.
Guest Accommodations
When not camping out under the stars, guests can choose to stay at either the ranch headquarters, cowboy bunkhouse, or a remote cabin on the prairie.

|
Cowboy Bunkhouse One of the original buildings on the ranch, the log bunkhouse has been refurbished with four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a cozy den, a glass porch and the ranch kitchen where all meals are served family-style around a large wooden table.

Log Cabin Also at ranch headquarters, the "McDonald Cabin", named in honor of the ranch founder, is a log cabin with a beautiful view of the red wall from the front porch. The cabin is propane-operated and has a modern bathroom. All meals are served next door at the cowboy bunkhouse.

Prairie Cabin Located 8 miles from the ranch headquarters, the Buckingham Cabin transports you to the days of the homesteader. This log cabin can accommodate up to five people and has propane lights, stove and refrigerator. The outdoor shower and first-rate outhouse ensure an uninterrupted view of the countryside!

|
We stock the kitchen with food and the corrals with horses, then check on you every day. From the swing on the front porch you can see for miles in every direction and enjoy a peaceful getaway from civilization. Next door is the old Will Taylor log homestead.

Activities
|
The various day-to-day activities at Willow Creek Ranch are typical of a large cattle operation and guests are invited to join in such things as branding, riding fence and checking on and moving the herd.
We have three campsites set up complete with chuckwagons and tepees for camping out under the stars and sampling wonderful dutch-oven cooking.
|
|
|
The ranch also boasts lots of good trout fishing and lots of beautiful vistas to be explored on horseback. You can even try your hand at target practice and skeet shooting. We work with you to plan each day according to your desires to make your vacation an unforgettable experience.

Special Events
OUTLAW TRAIL RIDE - Several times each summer, we take groups on an Outlaw Trail Ride. We spend five days riding the trails the outlaws used when they roamed this area and lived in the cabins at the famous Hole-In-The-Wall (H-I-W) hideout. We camp with an authentic chuckwagon each night on the trail on the way to the H-I-W. Along the way, we explore many historic sites such as Old Fort Houck, a stagecoach stop on the Sioux Indian Trail, and the site of the outlaw shootout at Smith Hill. We ride through a magnificent canyon as we approach the actual Hole-In-The-Wall hideout. One full day is spent exploring the H-I-W area where the outlaws lived and grazed their stolen cattle and horses.
CATTLE DRIVES At various times during the summer we gather and trail our cattle to far away pastures to give the grasses a rest. We spend some days gathering and moving the cattle and sometimes can camp out along the way.
FISHING The ranch boasts over 10 miles of excellent German Brown Trout waters along Buffalo Creek. This fly fishing stream is rated by many as some of the best small-stream trout fishing in the west and produces up to 23 inch Browns. In some places the fishing is in large pools and in other places it is in a stream that is only 3 feet wide. Some areas of the stream are in deep canyons while other areas are in a beautiful green valley within sight of the Hole-In-The-Wall. We are "catch and release" only with barbless hooks. We are licensed guides and provide all meals and lodging and a packed lunch daily.

CONFERENCES AND RETREATS When possible, we can accommodate small groups for retreats or conferences. Since each group is different, we plan a unique package based on your needs. Please call for more information. The Willow Creek Ranch At The Hole-In-The-Wall is not a “dude ranch”. There are no swimming pools, hot tubs, tennis courts or televisions. There is, however, an abundance of natural beauty, history and western heritage that is unsurpassed in this modern world. Come experience the West like it was meant to be.
